A character named Girlie (Dakota Johnson) gets into a cab driven by another character named Clark (Sean Penn). The two yap at each other during the ride from JFK to her Mid-Town apartment. Most of what Clark says is creepy and crude. Girlie responds, lightly berating him for his Neanderthal beliefs while sharing intimate details of her life that only seem to spur him on.
Written and directed by Christy Hall, their rude exchange is, according to the press materials for the film, going to help the characters (and the audience ) “locate a common ground that helps each of them see the other’s point of view — bringing them both closer to figuring out themselves.”
There is probably an audience for Daddio that will have that reaction, just as there are those who will get angry and upset by what’s being said. Some, like this reviewer, will just get bored by all the blah blah blah and stop watching.
