How can you rebuild yourself when you lose a parent and your homeland forever at the tender age of 8? Nadia Nadim, whose father was killed by the Taliban in 2000, has embarked on this difficult quest and her incredible life – from her family’s escape from violence-marred Kabul to the very pinnacle of international soccer fame is the stirring story that unfolds in Nadia, a feature-length documentary from filmmaker Anissa Bonnefont whose previous documentary, Wonder Boy (2019), captured the Best Documentary Jury Award at Tribeca.
Celebrate Nadia’s improbable story and the passion for soccer that gave her a new post-Kabul life, as she rose through the ranks to become a feared striker on the national team of her adoptive country, Denmark, and for Paris-Saint-Germain, one of the top women’s teams in the world. But having achieved soccer stardom, Nadia wants to return to her home country to find out more about her father’s fate. But as the country is devastated by terrorism, with the Taliban and ISIS sowing chaos daily, she’s forced to cancel and grieve another loss. However, Nadia is unsinkable and has big plans for the future: graduate as a reconstructive surgeon and help to save people’s lives.
