Radiance Films announces the release of three new titles as part of their December slate.

The urban neo-noir Yokohama BJ Blues from acclaimed samurai movie director Eiichi Kudo (The Fort of Death) captures the mood of urban Japan in a peak 1980s decadence. Following BJ, a down-at-heel private eye and part-time blues singer, Yokohama BJ Blues charts a tangled web from crooked cops and drug-dealing gangsters to the city’s underground biker and gay scenes. With his best friend murdered and BJ as the only suspect, he begins his investigation to clear his name. This deluxe Blu-ray package will include interviews with actress Mari Hemmi & writer Shoichi Maruyama, a filmed location tour, and a limited edition booklet featuring new and archival writing.

After the hugely successful release of Widerberg’s 1976 classic The Man on the Roof from Radiance last year, they followed up with a UK  Blu-ray premiere of 1984’s The Man From Majorca. Following a slick post office robbery, two police officers see their investigation become one of high-level corruption and institutional intrigue. With a focus on realism and procedural detail, Bo Widerberg channels the style of his earlier crime masterpiece but presents a new world. Gritty and often intense, The Man From Majorca is another classic of Nordic noir. It includes archival TV interviews with Widerberg, behind-the-scenes footage, interviews with assistant director Harald Hamrell, a discussion with Nordic noir expert Barry Forshaw, and a limited edition booklet.

Between 1946 and 1965, Luis Buñuel directed 21 films in Mexico, the country that became his adopted home. Towards the end of this period, the master of surrealism formed a significant creative partnership with producer Gustavo Alatriste and actress Silvia Pinal, resulting in three of his most provocative and enduring works: Viridiana (1961), The Exterminating Angel (1962), and Simon of the Desert (1965). Presented here in new restorations, these films are often regarded among the greatest of all time, showcasing Buñuel’s signature startling imagery, uncompromising surrealism, wicked humor, unapologetic eroticism, and disdain for societal norms. Featuring appreciations from Richard Ayoade, Alex Cox, Guillermo del Toro, and Lulu Wang, an archival interview with Buñuel, as well as three feature documentaries, Radiance’s Nothing is Sacred: Three Heresies from Luis Buñuel is a must-add to any cinephile’s shelves.
