Returning home with her traveling theatre troupe, actress Camille (Jeanne Balibar) finds the affections of her director/lover Ugo (Sergio Castellitto) have waned after he takes an interest in Dominique (Hélène de Fougerolles), a vivacious student helping him search for an infamous missing play. To make him jealous, Camille reunites with her former lover Pierre (Jacques Bonnaffé), now happily married to Sonia (Marianne Basler), and a farce-like series of screwball love stories ensue. Continuing Rivette’s fascination with theatrical performance and light satire of intelligentsia, Va Savoir is a latter-day romp from one of the greats of the French New Wave. Featuring both the 154-minute theatrical cut and an English-subtitled world premiere of Rivette’s 223-minute director’s cut across two discs, extras include archival interviews with Rivette and star Jeanne Balibar, an interview with critic Jonathan Romney and select-scene audio commentary by Pascal Bonitzer and Christine Laurent. Plus, a booklet featuring archival writing by Mary M. Wiles, Chris Chang, and Kent Jones and an archival interview with Rivette.
